Amazon is investigating a video purporting to show a delivery person spitting on a customer’s package.
Video obtained by TMZ showed a man wearing an Amazon vest dropping a package off at someone’s door and then spitting into the palm of his hand and appearing to smear it on the package. He then takes a photo of his delivery and walks away.
TMZ reported that the incident was recorded Thursday night in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
An Amazon rep told the outlet that the delivery person was from a third party service and that he was reported.
“This is clearly not representative of drivers who deliver for Amazon and the care they take for customers around the world every day,” a spokesperson said. “We are aggressively investigating to understand what may have occurred in this situation. If it truly was a malicious act by the driver, we will be sure he is held accountable, up through and including law enforcement action.”
Tensions are high amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the U.S., where terrorism charges can be brought against anyone who intentionally spreads it.
