All smiles: Rookie Alex Kirilloff’s two-homer game leads Twins past Kansas City


The Twins didn’t even know if Alex Kirilloff had teeth. Nelson Cruz made him prove it.

Though he’s only been around a little while, the Twins’ No. 2 prospect already has developed a reputation for being serious. Coupled with a bunch of recent bad luck, the Twins weren’t ever certain they’d have an opportunity to see Kirilloff smile. So when Kirilloff still wasn’t grinning after a string of misfortune ended with his first career home run on Friday night, one of two homers he hit in a 9-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Target Field, the veterans in the Twins dugout decided to force the issue.

Kirilloff’s forced smile was one of many from the Twins on Friday as they ended a horrid month on a happy note.
