Determining which teenagers are going to become all-NBA selections 73 seconds after the end of the draft is ridiculous. Gigli ridiculous. Getting in the ring with Mike Tyson, circa 1988, ridiculous. The notion of assigning “winners” and “losers” to a process that will take years to assess in time for the next news cycle is as predictive as your garden variety Powerball choices.

We don’t know.

It is not a crime to say we don’t know. It is good journalism. Because good journalism seeks truth.

So, when assessing what happened last week-that is, what happened after the Pelicans took Zion Williamson, the biggest no-brainer since Igor dropped Hans Delbrück’s cerebrum in Young Frankenstein and replaced it with that of a person he believed was named “Abby Normal” — shouldn’t be about A’s and F’s, but observations about why things happened.
