Aggressive Reds beat Brewers, evoke comparisons to 2010 club


MILWAUKEE — There was a moment in the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim, Calif., when Reds third baseman Scott Rolen went first to third on a Matt Holliday single and his teammate for both the game and the season, Brandon Phillips, could be heard on the broadcast saying, “That’s what we do in Cincinnati. We go first to third.”

That aggressive style was a hallmark of the National League Central-winning team and that style was lead by Rolen, then 35. He was never the fastest runner, but he always ran hard and smart. He set the tone for a team that had a core of young players, such as Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Phillips, who were just entering the primes of their careers.
