After playing with seven players, Sixers must confront start of tricky stretch


In normal times, Friday would have been a recovery day for the 76ers. They may have watched film together but not practiced. The gym would have been open for any player who wanted individual work. Some would have received treatment in preparation for the next day’s game.

But after Seth Curry was informed during Thursday’s game at Brooklyn that his PCR test result was positive, the Sixers were forced to stay in New York on Friday. Players had to stay in their hotel rooms and order room service unless they were being tested for COVID-19, and they went through contract tracing, essentially an audit of their daily interactions, to determine who had been around Curry. The Sixers expected to be able to leave earlier in a day that kept dragging on.

The Sixers finally left New York a little before 11 p.m. and were back in Philadelphia at 1 a.m. Not only did they not know if they would still play Denver on Saturday afternoon at home, their recovery day hadn’t…
