When Glen Taylor purchased the Timberwolves in 1994 to save them from moving to New Orleans, he started negotiating with owners Harvey Ratner and Marv Wolfenson on a Tuesday and wrapped things up by Saturday morning. The acquisition surprised everyone outside of a tight circle in the know.
Twenty-seven years later, Taylor’s long search for a successor materialized out of the blue in much the same way and was even more stunning. Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore signed a letter of intent Saturday and are negotiating to eventually take over the franchise. It’s a lot to take in. The prospects of relocating, the mechanics of the deal, the looming arrival of a former archrival of the Twin Cities sports scene, it was all a little overwhelming in the moment.
