‘A glimpse of what’s to come’: What Michael Porter Jr.’s first start says about the future for the Nuggets


It had already been a sterling starting debut for Michael Porter Jr. when the brightest glimpse of the possibilities his talent presents for the Nuggets illuminated the Pepsi Center.

With eight minutes left in the fourth quarter against the visiting Kings, Porter took a handoff from Mason Plumlee along the perimeter, sized up the switching defender, Richaun Holmes, and buried a stepback 3-pointer.

No sooner had the crowd roared its approval for the rookie — no sooner had public address announcer Kyle Speller bellowed, “Uh oh!” into his mic at the sight of the majestic jumper — that Porter was taking off again, this time as he galloped through the lane and flushed home a Monte Morris missed layup.
