The 2020-21 season was a season to forget for everyone involved with the Buffalo Sabres and Linus Ullmark has gotten out of the mess.
Ullmark, who was limited to just 20 games and nothing after the trade deadline, has signed a four-year, $5-million AAV deal with the Boston Bruins.
The deal comes as starter Tuukka Rask currently sits as a UFA and will be injured to start the season. Ullmark should give the team options with youngsters Dan Vladar and Jeremy Swayman in the mix, too. There’s still the possibility that Rask decides to not return to the Bruins, too.
Ullmark was one of the few bright spots for the franchise, posting a 9-6-3 record with a respectable .917 save percentage. Ullmark consistently found a way to steal games for a team that, despite adding Taylor Hall in the off-season, would struggle from the get-go and finished dead last.
Ullmark was considered one of the top goalies on the UFA market. The 27-year-old has never had a playoff-caliber team in front of him and many goalie experts believe in the right situation, Ullmark would truly be able to shine.
