The prodigal sons have returned.
On Tuesday evening, the Vancouver Canucks confirmed what many had been expecting for months, announcing that Henrik and Daniel Sedin will be joining the team’s front office as Special Advisors to the General Manager.
The Sedins will have a hand in all manner of areas, according to the team’s official statement. Along with lending support to General Manager, Jim Benning and his staff of executives with matters pertaining to organizational strategy and decision-making, the franchise icons will also spend their time working with coaches and players from the Canucks’ newly re-located AHL affiliate in Abbotsford, along with participating in planning for the draft, trade deadline, and free agency.
It was only a matter of time before the Sedins made their way back to the one and only team they called home.
The pair are perhaps the most beloved figures in Canucks history, spending 17 seasons in Vancouver, with Henrik holding franchise-record marks for games played, assists, and points, and Daniel sitting atop the franchise throne for goals, power-play goals, game-winning goals, and shots.
With Benning seemingly entering a make-or-break season when it comes to keeping his job, surrounding himself with a pair of local heroes may just keep his seat a little for cooler for the time being.
