Days after making their relationship Instagram official, JoJo Siwa celebrated Valentine’s Day with her girlfriend Kylie over the weekend. “No one in the world makes me as happy as this girl does,” the social media star and hair-bow mogul captioned her sweet post.
A selfie of Kylie giving JoJo a piggyback ride was followed by a video of Kylie playfully blowing a straw wrapper in her face, instantly melting hearts worldwide. The 17-year-old gushed that it was her first Valentine’s Day, a milestone that came just weeks after Siwa opened up to fans about being part of the LGBTQ+ community.
“I’m so thankful to have fallen in love with the most perfect person ever who makes me smile 24/7,” Siwa wrote of her Valentine. So far we know that two started out as best friends for over a year before their connection grew romantic and they coupled up last month. Siwa has also said that her girlfriend helped her to come out. Another important detail? They’re really into matching outfits, particularly of the one-piece variety.
Kylie’s Valentine’s gift for her extremely famous girlfriend was a hoodie with a clear message for Siwa’s adoring fans. “Warning: I am taken. Don’t flirt with me. It’s for your own safety,” reads the sweatshirt, which appeared in their IG stories. Kylie also shared her own effusive message: “Getting to spend Valentine’s Day [with] the BEST human on earth. I love you, I love you, I love you, JoJo Siwa.”
The Nickelodeon idol has proven especially partial to fashion that makes a clear statement — or at least she keeps receiving them as gifts. Fans may recall the T-shirt she got from a cousin that made a stir just after Siwa officially came out, which read “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”
Siwa’s recent blitz of rainbow-tinted, sparkly social media posts falls right in line with her wildly popular brand, and feels only natural for a young person in love for the first time. Given her global reach and influence with young fans, her joy and openness about being part of the queer community has also marked a watershed cultural moment. For kids questioning their own identities, facing fear of rejection from loved ones, or mustering up the courage to publicly embrace their partner, Siwa is a first-of-her-kind role model.
You don’t have to celebrate Valentine’s Day to appreciate the power of a public love note from one of the most famous kids on Earth, who just so happens to be queer.
