Kyrie, Harden and Durant: What will new roles look like for Nets’ big three?


Game 1 of the Superteam Era in Brooklyn illustrated every one of the areas of concern with the Nets prospects following the expansive, four-team trade that saw James Harden join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. We saw reason to worry about the three stars coexisting in a synergistic fashion. The defense was flammable. The depth, non-existent.

Taking the last first, despite the game going to double overtime Wednesday against the Cavs, only six Nets played at least 12 minutes. While rotations tighten in the postseason, if that sort of minute concentration becomes the norm in Brooklyn for the rest of the season, one has to wonder how much tread will be left on the tires in May and June. Even if there isn’t a cumulative effect of such a minute load, being unable to function without a deeper rotation could be a possible indication of Brooklyn’s playoff vulnerability.
