Sources: After Kings tab Monte McNair to head basketball ops, decisions loom


The Kings have decided who will lead their basketball operations, choosing Houston assistant general manager Monte McNair to head their basketball operations, sources told The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Shams Charania.

McNair will be the third person to oversee basketball operations since Vivek Ranadive became the controlling owner of the team in the spring of 2013, following Pete D’Alessandro’s two-year stint, and Vlade Divac, who resigned last month after five years.

Divac’s resignation was unexpected. It came after Ranadive proposed advisor Joe Dumars have final say on basketball decisions, stripping Divac of the power he once had and that had been reaffirmed with a contract extension in April 2019.

Dumars assumed control of the front office in the interim until the team stated it was searching for a general manager, and Dumars would have a role in shaping the structure of the front office.
