In a first of its kind event, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and LRF Cares, a 501(c)(3) sponsored charity, have teamed together to host a live money, on-track contest to benefit thoroughbred aftercare on Saturday July 20, 2019 at Del Mar. Each player receives a $250 live bankroll with the “takeout” going to guaranteed prizes and LRF Cares ($100 IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE).
“Horseplayers have asked all year how they can help with the changing environment,” said Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s Chris Bahr. “I can see no better way than contributing to LRF Cares aftercare by participating in this contest. We look forward to seeing our regular players on July 20th.”

Format: Live money contest. Wager $50 or more on five Del Mar live races. Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta and Daily Double wagering only.
Guaranteed Prizes: 60% of the prize pool returned to players including one guaranteed 2019 $8,000 Del Mar Handicapping Challenge Entry and two 2020 National Horseplayer Championship (NHC) entries. 40% to LRF Cares. NHC Tour points can be earned.
The portion of the takeout for LRF Cares (ie $100) is TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
“LRF Cares spreads its donations among many aftercare organizations such as New Vocations and CARMA,” said LRF Cares Gary Fenton. “The responsibility should be on all of us to create a structure where our equine athletes can succeed in secondary careers.”
