Some Horses May Leave Woodbine; Other EHV-1 Cases Linked To The Track

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has announced that horses not in isolation for EHV-1 are permitted to exit Woodbine Racetrack. There have been no reports of EHV-1 transmission outside Barn 12 in the last 14 days.

All horses in Barn 12 have tested negative for the first time; this indicates that the mitigation strategies put in place have been effective in isolating the disease. Testing of Barn 12 horses will continue and movement restrictions of these horses are still in place.

One horse in Barn 10 had tested positive for EHV-1 and was isolated; all other horses in Barn 10 have tested negative multiple times over the last two weeks. These horses are no longer under any restrictions.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) was notified of a fourth confirmed case of EHV-1 in Dufferin County. All horses are on the same farm and have an epidemiological link to the affected horses at Woodbine Racetrack. Two horses have been euthanized because of the progression of the disease. The other two horses are in the care of an equine hospital.

The farm manager implemented strict biosecurity measures and the disease has been contained to one barn on the property.
