Louisiana Derby winner Wells Bayou will not be aimed at the 2020 Belmont Stakes, rescheduled for June 20, trainer Brad Cox told the Daily Racing Form.
Instead, the 3-year-old son of Lookin at Lucky will look to make his next start a few weeks later on the calendar, perhaps in the July 8 Indiana Derby or the July 11 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland.
Most recently fifth in the Arkansas Derby, Wells Bayou has 104 points toward the Kentucky Derby, so should be confirmed a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday in September.
Stablemate Bonny South, impressive winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks last out, may also target Keeneland for the Grade 1 Ashland on July 11. Also on the table is the Indiana Oaks on July 8, Cox said.
