The Utah Jazz had their sights set on bringing in Nikola Mirotic to the team to be their highly coveted stretch-4. Despite winning quite a bit with the tandem of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, the Jazz felt the way to maximize their playoff potential after acquiring Mike Conley before the draft would happen by finding even more shooters to put out there. While Favors has been a decent jump shooter over the years, he hasn’t exactly expanded his range into being a real stretch-4.

Then Mirotic surprised everybody and decided to return to Europe on a deal with Barcelona. The Jazz front office then pivoted to still clearing that spot and cap space of Derrick Favors, this time for signing Bojan Bogdanovic to a pretty big contract.
