SKIEN, Norway – Seven different players scored and Hope Bevilhymer (West Jordan, Utah) recorded a shutout to help the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team to a 7-0 victory over Great Britain in its second game of the 2024 Para Ice Hockey Women’s World Challenge at Skien Fritidspark.
“Our team did an excellent job executing,” said Rose Misiewicz, head coach of the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team. “They did a great job, especially with some specific things we wanted to focus on today like cycling the puck.”
Robynne Hill (Fountain, Colo.) opened the scoring 4:31 into the contest with a far-side wrist shot from the left circle.
Kaden Herchenroether (Allison Park, Pa.) doubled the U.S. lead at the 6:38 mark when she buried a back-door feed from Hill from the point.
With 7:31 remaining in the first, Kelsey DiClaudio (Plum, Pa.) scored with a laser from the left circle to put the U.S. up 3-0.
Just 30 seconds later, Team USA took a 4-0 lead when Madeleine Gallagher (Palm Bay, Fla.) capitalized on a top-shelf wrist shot from the left circle.
Jamie Benassi (Newtown, Ohio) added to the U.S. advantage with 6:01 to play in the opening frame when she found the back of the net with a shot from the slot.
Catherine Faherty (Norwell, Mass.) put the U.S. up 6-0 just 24 seconds into the second, stickhandling onto her right hand just outside the crease before firing a shot into the top right corner.
Team USA added the final tally of the game to take a 7-0 lead with 7:49 remaining in the contest when Ailin Zheng (Queens, N.Y.) collected a loose puck in a scrum in front of the Great Britain net and batted it home.
Women’s World Challenge action continues tomorrow (Oct. 27), as Team USA will face off against Team Pacific at 2:30 p.m. ET. The game will live stream here.
