Novak Djokovic bans media in ‘weird’ Paris Masters episode as concerns raised

Novak Djokovic reportedly banned the media from filming his practise session earlier today.

Cameras are usually allowed to capture the ongoings on the practice courts throughout the tennis season.

But the world No 1 put a stop to that when Amazon Prime attempted to check on his fitness ahead of his Paris Masters clash with Kyle Edmund.

Djokovic is struggling with an illness this week and ex-British No 1 Sam Smith has a strange feeling about the Serbian’s behaviour.

“I saw Novak after his press conference after yesterday and he was not well,” Smith told Amazon Prime.

“Well I have been around both of them [Djokovic and Edmund] and I am dreading catching something!

“It has been weird with Novak all week. He was supposed to come into press on Sunday and he didn’t turn up. He didn’t come on Monday until like 5pm.

“A lot of people were feeling like ‘Oh is he going to pull out?’

“And then today we weren’t allowed to film his practise as he didn’t want anybody to see.”

Djokovic limped past lucky loser Corentin Moutet in his opening match of the tournament and then explained how he was feeling under the weather.

“I actually when I came here, Friday, I felt ok the first couple of days,” he said.

“Then the last few days something unfortunately caught up with my and health-wise I’m not feeling my best.

“I have had quite a few cases where I have already been in a tournament and getting better as days go by.

“Of course it affects your energy and vitality on the court, alertness, attention and all these different things.

“It’s not ideal but in these kind of circumstances you just have to accept it and do everything you can to recover.”
