49ers vs. Giants: 10 observations and our predictions for Nick Mullens’ start


Earlier this week, 49ers left tackle Trent Williams raved about how focused quarterback Nick Mullens is every time he encounters him.

“He has tunnel vision,” Williams said of Mullens. “He don’t see anybody. I walked past him a few times and I could see him going over plays in his head. He didn’t even notice me. We don’t even speak. It’s the same thing I used to see from Kirk Cousins a long time ago and it puts me in the same mind frame when I see how serious he takes the game.”

Williams might be in for a surprise this Sunday when Mullens starts for the 49ers against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in place of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s been ruled out with a high ankle sprain. Williams wasn’t around when Mullens started eight games in 2018, a stretch that brought out an entirely new dimension of the quarterback’s personality.
