49ers’ injury issues worsen: Dee Ford to miss Jets game with a neck injury


Dee Ford’s goal of playing in all 16 regular-season games has been sidetracked after one week.

The 49ers defensive end was scratched from Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a neck issue that began bothering him after he played 46 of 82 snaps against the Cardinals in Week 1. Ford took part in Wednesday’s practice, missed Thursday and Friday’s sessions and until Saturday afternoon had been listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.

Kyle Shanahan said Ford came into work on Thursday complaining of neck spasms.

“So we rested him,” Shanahan said Friday. “I know (Friday) he came in with some (spasms), so I know he’s meeting with guys and trying to make sure it’s safe and everything. So that’s why it’s questionable. Don’t have much more than that, but it’s Friday, so we’re just trying to play it slow here and see how it goes for the next two…
