2021 Olympics: USWNT open Tokyo Games with stunning 3-0 loss to Sweden

The U.S. women’s soccer team opened the Tokyo Olympics with a stunning 3-0 loss to Sweden on Wednesday.

The Americans came out stagnant and uncertain against the Swedes, who dominated their opponents in the first group stage game for both teams at Tokyo Stadium. The Games don’t officially open until Friday, but the soccer tournament kicked off two days early.

Stina Blackstenius scored twice for Sweden while Lina Hurtig added the other goal.

The starting XI for the USWNT were Alyssa Naeher, Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn, Abby Dahlkemper, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis, Lindsey Horan, Rose Lavelle, Christen Press, Alex Morgan and Tobin Heath.

The USWNT will be looking to regroup when they face New Zealand in their next game Saturday.

This is a developing story. More coming.
