2020 Sentry TOC betting odds: Favorites and underdogs in Maui

The first event of 2020 is set to tee off in Maui, Hawaii, on Thursday, and though the field is limited, boasting only 34 players, all of them qualified for the annual Valley Isle gathering by winning a regular-season PGA Tour event during the 2018-19 season. Despite several missing big-name players, the tournament, which will be played at Kapalua Resort’s Plantation course, features five members of the current world top 10.

European Tour golfer of the year and newlywed Jon Rahm is the betting favorite to win this week with 4/1 odds. The 25-year-old is the top-ranked player in the field and is coming off a runner-up finish at December’s Hero World Challenge — a tournament he won in 2018. Rahm won once on the PGA Tour in 2019 (the Zurich Classic of New Orleans) and notched 12 other top 10 finishes. Meanwhile, he amassed three 2019 wins on the European Tour.

Following Rahm as the TOC’s second best-bet is 26-year-old Justin Thomas, who enters the week with 5/1 odds. Thomas’ most recent Tour victory was the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in October, which marked the 11th of his career.

The defending champion in the event also happens to be the week’s third best-bet: Xander Schauffele, who came from six shots back to claim lat year’s title with a sizzling final-round 62, is listed as 8/1 entering the week. Schauffele hasn’t finished worse than T10 in his last three starts — including a runner-up finish at the WGC-HSBC Champions in November — a tournament he won in 2018.
